Season
4 Update-September 14, 2006
The
RVTV team has been busy this summer shooting for
season four. Among our travels we visited a really
unique location – Association
Island RV Resort and Marina. Nestled in the 1000
Islands region, this beautiful island is in the scenic
1000 Islands Region and is located in Henderson Harbor
1 mile into Lake Ontario in northern New York State. They
have 305 RV Sites with over 70 RV sites
right on the water, a gorgeous Marina and Boat Launch, and beautiful Lake-front Sunset Cottages. When you drive over the bridge
and cross a 1300 feet-long causeway, you'll know you
are somewhere special! The resort is situated on
an island with 65 acres, a well-protected marina,
picturesque shoreline, breath-taking lake views, and
spectacular sunsets. They even have a very special
member of the staff – a dog named Babe who is
specially trained to chase the geese from the
shoreline insuring a nice clean experience.
We
also visited a great family destination in Sherkston
Ontario in the Niagara Penisula region – Sherkston
Shores Beach Resort. Situated on the pristine
shores of Lake Erie, Sherkston Shores is set in 550
acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, scattered
with hidden nature trails amongst century old forests
in an area steeped in history. For windsurfers and
boaters, the resort shoreline is ideal for launching,
while it’s beautiful, safe and clean sandy beaches
are a favorite for families and beachcombers. You can
drive right onto the over two and a half miles of
beautiful sandy beaches, and enjoy an abundant choice
of recreational amenities, including FunWorks, on-site
waterpark and entertainment complex. The kids will
never get bored at this resort. You can even enjoy the
golf cart drive in and catch a movie with the family.
Next,
we headed out for a tour of Pennsylvania. We started
our trip where all things chocolate rule – Hershey
PA. There is a lot to do in the land of chocolate and
we made Hershey
Highmeadow Campground our home base. This is the
perfect setting to enjoy the natural beauty of
Hershey, Pennsylvania. With more than 300 open and
shaded sites on 55 acres, Hershey Highmeadow
Campground welcomes campers of all kinds, from the
family who tents to the recreational vehicle owner, to
those who prefer sleeping in a log or rustic cabin.
While in Hershey we visited Chocolate World, Hershey
Park and the spectacular Hotel Hershey. If you really
want some fine dining in a beautiful setting try the
Circular dining room at the hotel….superb.
From
there we went to the famous Lancaster County and the Spring
Gulch Resort Campground. Located in the
Pennsylvania Dutch Country, this is a truly beautiful
campground. With more than 450 sites in forest and
farmland on 115 acres, fishing pond, pools, beach and
swimming pond Hiking, fishing, movies, square dancing,
modern dancing, volleyball, tennis, horseshoes,
miniature golf, basketball, there is never a lack of
things to do, and it is a beautiful location to just
relax. As most people know, this is Amish country and
you can take in an amazing amount of culture and
crafts in the area. From homemade foods to handmade
quilts, you can find something that tickles your
fancy. While
in Lancaster County you can take a buggy ride, visit
Kitchen Kettle Village and one not to miss is the
Strasburg Rail Road. Chartered
by an act of the Pennsylvania legislature on June 9,
1832, Strasburg Railroad has operated for more than a
century and a half, connecting its community with the
nation's rail system -- providing both passenger and
freight service. It is America's oldest short line
railroad.
The equipment has
been authentically restored to its turn-of-the-century
glory, and includes four huge steam locomotives and
fourteen passenger cars. Visitors can ride in splendor
in a parlor car that features coal oil lamps, ancient
pot belly stoves, and plush seating. A ride on the
Strasburg Railroad is like riding a work of art.
Our
last stop was Gettysburg and the Drummer
Boy Camping Resort. Without question, Gettysburg
is one of America’s most significant historical
attractions, and Drummer
Boy Camping Resort offers premiere option in
centrally-located travel accommodations. It is only a
5-minute drive from your campsite to the historic
Civil War battlefields, museums, and the historic
buildings and shops of Gettysburg.
Drummer Boy Camping Resort offers a landscaped
heated pool, fishing pond mini golf, waterslide and
more. Drummer Boy features over 342 spacious
campsites, including several new cabin rentals,
scattered over 90 beautiful acres of woodland.
One
place not to miss while in Gettysburg is The
Dobbin House. Four Score and Seven years before
the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, (1776), Reverend
Alexander Dobbin built a house to begin a new life in
America for himself and his family. Today his home,
listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is
a colonial restaurant where candlelit elegance,
superior food in abundance, and gracious service bring
back the sights, sounds and tastes of two centuries
ago. It consistently wins Mobil Guide's highest area
rating. The friendly hospitality of The Dobbin House
extends to the Springhouse Tavern, Gettystown Bed and
Breakfast, Country Curiosity Store, Abigail Adams
Ballroom, in-house bakery and secret "underground
railroad" slave hideout. You also might want to
include a guided Ghost tour to finish off the evening
of history.
Our
last stop was the Pennsylvania RV show. Billed as the
largest RV show in America, we saw a lot of
interesting rigs. The one that was the show stopper
was Robert Dinero’s TWO story 53 foot travel
trailer. Built by Anderson Mobile Estates, this beauty
boasts 1200 sq. feet of living space, 11 TV’s, and
features you have to see to believe. You won’t want
to miss this in season 4!
Keep
checking in to see where the RVTV team will show up
next.

The Tin Can Tourists
and RVTV
On May 19-24th the crew of RVTV were "going retro"
in Milford Michigan at
Camp Dearborn with the Tin Can Tourists. The Tin Can
Tourists is an
organization committed to the celebration of classic
trailers and motor
coaches through annual gatherings of owners and friends.
An interest in
older trailers, such as, the Spartan, Silver Streak,
Avion, and Bowles has
grown beyond it's previous borders and these vintage
motorhomes and trailers
are truly something to behold. The event included a
Chilli cook off,
activities, entertainment, Concours d'Elegance where
owners proudly let you
tour their homes, frivolity and a whole lot of fun.
A little rain and a big
thunderstorm couldn't dampen the good spirits of the
attendees.
Originally organized in 1919, the Tin Can Tourists club
is open to everyone
interested in the history, preservation, promotion and
enjoyment of vintage
trailers and motor coaches. All of us from RVTV certainly
enjoyed ourselves
and learned a lot about the history and unique beauty
of these classics. We
know you will enjoy this blast from the past coming
up on RVTV. Keep
watching ... travel safe and have fun.
